DIY Wedding Arch Decoration Ideas

Wedding arches have symbolic significance in ceremonies across cultures. They often represent the threshold between the old life and the new life the couple is entering together. Decorating this symbol on your own gives it a different feeling, reflects your personal touch and character, and gives this symbol a deeper meaning.

It's also cost-effective and simple to do, and the best part is that you can do this with your couple; planning it and decorating together will strengthen the bond between you and create a lot of warm memories to remember later in your life.

1. Choose Your Design

The first step in decorating your wedding arch is to choose the design. Maybe you already have a design in mind, but don't worry if you don't have one; the internet is filled with places that can inspire you to decorate your wedding arch in the most beautiful way. When it comes to ideas, I would say that Pinterest is the first place to visit, but if you didn't find something to your liking, there are other places to check, such as wedding blogs and magazines.

When you are choosing the design, you need to take into consideration things like the wedding venue and theme.

2. Gathering Materials for Decorating the Arch

The second step in assembling and decorating your wedding arch is gathering the wedding arch decoration materials. You will need the following:

  • Three wooden posts (you can choose the design and height you wish).
  • Screws, nails, a drill or a screwdriver, zip ties, scissors, and post-hole diggers.
  • Base or anchors to stabilize the wedding arch.
  • Wedding lights: wedding lights are indispensable in decorating your wedding arch. You can choose the ones you like better, whether they're wedding fairy lights or wedding string lights.
  • Greenery and florals.
  • Wedding decorations (beads, tulle for draping, crystals, etc.).
  • Floral foam for arranging the flowers.

3. Taking Care of the Greenery and Flowers

If the greenery and flowers you order are not real, then all that you need to do is clean and polish them before you hang them. If you want to order real flowers and greenery, preorder them and have them delivered. When you receive them, check the roots for freshness, trim the excess foliage, and then place it in the water to maintain its freshness.

4. Assembling the Wedding Arch

After ordering all the materials you need and making sure that the greenery is alright, what you will do next is assemble the wedding arch.

  • Use post pole diggers to dig holes for the poles, or you can use buckets and quick dry cement to secure them in place.
  • Predrill the holes: this is optional, but it's the optimal choice if you are using a screwdriver. This way, you can prevent splitting.
  • After securing the poles, add the third wooden stack as a crossbeam.

5. Decorating the Arch

Now we come to the fun part. At the stage, you will bring all the decorations you ordered, and you will design the arch using the greenery and the draping fabirc according to the design you chose.

Start with the floral foam blocks to make sure that the plants receive the nutrition they need.

Spray the flowers every now and then to ensure that they keep their freshness.

6. Adding Decorative Wedding Lights

The last step is to add the wedding lights. In my opinion, this is a must. Without the wedding lights, the rest of the decorations will have a dull look. Add the decorative wedding lights to reflect the beauty of the decorations you arranged and to add a lovely ambiance. You can either use wedding string lights or wedding fairy lights; according to your preference, each has its own beauty, and they will definitely add a lot of beauty to your wedding arch.
